One of the more languid takes on this one. Although Jerry's voice is shot, it works. Notable for 2 runs through the solo, both of them stellar.

Explosive jam makes this one a bit unique. Not as smooth and complex as some later versions, but synergy and chops by all.

Smokes from head to tail. No SBD, or this would be top 5 with ease.

I fully expect this one to rise in popularity once the BBD arrives.

Nice AUD has Jerry up front. Great solo in SB, transition is interesting, with nice cascading riffs, followed by a Hot FOTM.

No board, no love. The Scarlet is killer, and the fire keeps up a good head of steam. I think it bests 10/21/1983 by a good margin. Hear what you think. +1

I enjoy your thoughtful critiques, Busotti. Keep them coming.

I don’t think it’s all that, especially for the great month of May ’77. Here’s why. The solo in SB is it’s probably the worst of the month. It’s awfully sloppy for the first two chorus’, JG recovers, and at the climax the thwack is forewarned. The transition Jam is really fantastic, but there’s the actual transition into FOTM, which is wee bumpy. No real foul, for me, it’s far from an exception. The Fire intro is fantastic, and then… The THWACK! Cool! …for a few measures, but he’s like a toddler who just found his schwantz for the first time, and slaps it for over a minute. Seems lazy to me, Gimmicky, even. The verse and following Solo/jam are great, but for the last 1:30 they just vamp, with not much going on. It just marks time for me. Had they cut this a few measures or done one of the silky smooth re-entries they were capable of at the time, it would fare better in my overly critical review. Outro is fantastic, Doubly delicious even, but it never quite reaches escape velocity.

Another sleeper way down here. In an anonymous listening, it really held up well. The intro is perhaps the longest of any 3 verse FOTM. Great flow, with very little filler. +1

It's a competent version, perhaps even the best of the year. But sharing ranking with 10/14/1983? Not in this universe.
