Wharf Rat
March 18, 1993
Capital Centre

This is an especially long version, and Hornsby's accordian gives it an orchestral feel.

Bird Song
Oct. 17, 1981
Hippodrome

A fairly unique version, because of its placement in the second set and the way that it jams into NTAW.

Never Trust A Woman
Oct. 17, 1981
Hippodrome

An interesting segue from a rare second set Bird Song which is unfinished.

The Wheel
May 21, 1982
Greek Theatre, U. Of California

Strong version which leads into a nice jam, and a very well-developed transition to Playin Reprise, reminiscent of 76/77 versions.

Uncle John's Band
July 1, 1985
Merriweather Post Pavilion

Extremely passionate, if compact version. JG's leads are especilly determined during the jams.

Dire Wolf
Dec. 6, 1980
Mill Valley Recreation Center

I love this show. It was done for a community center, an audience of developmentally challenged kids. I recall seeing a picture of it in one of those Dead books that came out in the 80s. The best parts of the show might be (a) that the woman introducing them doesn't know their names and (b) that the clowns and Santa get bigger applause than the Dead.
Blow Away
Oct. 26, 1989
Miami Arena

Great segue from Estimated, and nicely executed.
Victim Or The Crime
Oct. 26, 1989
Miami Arena

Standout first set version which whips up into some nice noisy space before dropping into Don't Ease.
Dark Star
April 1, 1991
Greensboro Coliseum

Long and quite creative, especially the lead-in and the pre-Drumz jam.
And We Bid You Goodnight
Oct. 8, 1989
Hampton Coliseum

After this encore, and the second set of this show, people must've been thinking, "That's the show of the tour! It can't get any better!" Ha - little did they know...
