Great high energy version that leads into a spontaneous, first-ever "Devil With the Blue Dress > Good Golly Miss Molly"

A more uptempo version where the band really gels nicely. You can hear Pigpen's organ shining on it, which is often lost in the mix.

Jerry said it was the worst show they ever did. It's sloppy, but the Dark Star is trippy as hell. Mellow, groovy and Tom's organ really shines.

Good call! Brent is on fire on this one.

I don't know how this one isn't higher! I think this whole show is killer. Easily as good as the run at the Fillmore a week later. I don't think any Dark Star can hold a candle to a '69 Dark Star. I just love TC's organ too much.

Make sure you check out the Dick's Picks 30 recording. The version on Archive is potato quality.

Garcia just rips it. The whole band is just grooving and sounds so heavy. Best version ever.

True enough! I agree that the show as a whole is pretty poor (The St. Stephen is over before it even has time to get good and Lovelight outstays its welcome for me) but I've always had a fondness for the Dark Star. I think it deserves another listen from most people.
