Very cleanly recorded, but feels like a slightly hollow demo. 1969-'72 (mainly '69) were this song's peak years; it was still embryonic in August '68.

Surely this is the best ever?! The idiosyncratic drumming, the great vocals from Bob, the dynamism of the whole band... oh man, 26 April '72 was a truly awesome night.

Beautiful, heartfelt, well-paced. It's perfect; better than the 'Europe '72' version, IMHO, although the famed '79 version (Nassau Coliseum) is justly lauded.

This is so damn brisk, it just never lets up. Such quick playing, and quick thinking by the whole band, just thinking and playing as one organism. Over 15 minutes long, and the intensity never even dips slightly - which can't really be said for any other version, although I am partial to the more *dynamic* 'Live/Dead', Fillmore West and Hollywood Palladium versions ('69, '69, '71). Oh, and in this version, the transition into GDTRFB is sublime.
