The Eleven
Feb. 24, 1968
Kings Beach Bowl
RAGING. 'nuff said. Goes into 'Drums', then 'Alligator', and can be found on 'Dick's Picks Vol. 22'.

Two Souls in Communion
April 26, 1972
Jahrhunderthalle
C'mon, this is SURELY the definitive version?! Pigpen is so strong yet so poignantly vulnerable in this cut, with perfect fills from Jerry and Bill.

Morning Dew
Aug. 24, 1968
Shrine Auditorium
Intense stuff; brisk but heartfelt. Real acid rock. The venue people cut off the power at the end, but 'til then, it's still 7 great minutes.

Turn On Your Love Light
Jan. 26, 1969
Avalon Ballroom
I know Deadheads try to prove themselves by choosing more obscure versions, but the 'Live/Dead' version is EASILY in the Top 5 'Love Lights' ever.

Me and Bobby McGee
Nov. 15, 1971
The Austin Municipal Auditorium
This is an unusual one rhythmically; the pianistics are delightfully appropriate, Jer's vocal contributions are on point, and both guitars sound great. They handled the tempo well, too.
Truckin'
Sept. 3, 1977
Raceway Park
I love the drum intro, but this is a delicious version primarily because Phil is having SO much fun on vocals (and bass). And the extended middle section is just repetitive riffing, but hot damn if it ain't spirited riffing.
Here Comes Sunshine
Dec. 6, 1973
Public Hall
For years I disliked this song. I still don't like the studio version, or most other versions. But my god, this is absolutely gorgeous. Truly stunning music from start to finish.
Looks Like Rain
April 8, 1972
Wembley Empire Pool
Usually hate this song -- "Did you ever waken to the sound of street cats making love?" must be one of the worst lyrics in music history -- but this version turns sap into gorgeous beauty. Thanks to Jerry, mostly.
Next Time You See Me
April 8, 1972
Wembley Empire Pool
This is indeed a ripper. Jerry's guitar is live, but notable mostly for the fantastic harmonica work.
