Very much in the vein of the Live/Dead version that came 3 weeks later. As they were an opening act this night, they cut the spacey middle part and keep this to about 12 minutes. Which is to say still great, leaner, more focused and mystical than the overrated jazz fusion of the Veneta show version.
Eyes Of The World
Oct. 19, 1973
Oklahoma City Fairgrounds Arena
The whole of Dick's Picks 19 is a fairly breezy, easygoing concert, which perfectly fits the vibe of this song. Goes for a momentarily dissonant swim about 2/3 of the way through.

Another dissent here. This is neither great Grateful Dead nor great Branford Marsalis (google "Xavier's Lair"). Not as horrible as the Dark Star, but the digital keyboard and anemic lazy rhythms sink what could have been at least a serviceable guest performance. That this has so many upvotes is evidence of how drugs are bad for the brain.

Brings a moody, abstract Dark Star to terra firma. It just seems to work better than the sometimes jarring transition to Tighten Up that others seem to favor.
