Caution
May 12, 1980
Boston Garden

This is a pretty intense early 80s-style Caution jam. I was surprised to find this just now.

The Music Never Stopped

Stanley Theater

A unique beginning with nice peaks to both the mid jam and the outro.

Mississippi Halfstep Uptown Toodeloo

Dane County Coliseum

The final Keith and Donna Half Step stands up well, even though there's one lonely AUD.

Mississippi Halfstep Uptown Toodeloo

Billerica Forum

An early Brent Mydland Half Step with electric piano pre rio grandeo and a joyful Garcia solo afterwards.

Sugaree

Winterland Arena

No fanning or soaring peaks, but solo 3 (7:45-12:45 on CM's SBD) is a new favorite - sublime, mellow, laid back.

The golden age of the song with YT video easily available. You don't have to look too hard to find underrated versions in this era.

This one has a spacey mid section and a cool, if understated outro without a lot of shredding. Garcia's playing is typical of these October and November '79 shows - a really sweet tone, but not as loud or out in front of the band as in '78 or '80. This is the MNS to go along with the long, spacey Franklin's Towers of that fall or like the Eyes of 11/5/79.

There is a Charlie miller board available for set one, so turn this one up for the mid section which is just scorching. I cannot say that I haven't heard better outros, but when you love something, youre willing to put these pieces together. The midjam ought to be heard by the heads who like that kind of thing.

I only knew this one as an AUD and this song was my top reason to get the '78 box - which I have avoided doing until today. This was everything I thought it would be and a little bit more. With a version this good out there, this one rates in the top 5 conversation. I loved the AUD for a long time, but I'll have a hard time going back to it now.

Spectacular mid section and a decent outro. This one deserves votes. Edit: I've rediscovered this one a couple of months later and I think it belongs somewhere around #5 on the list, give or take a few. It's way better than 4 votes. The linked source is not the best of the three.
