Caution
May 12, 1980
Boston Garden

This is a pretty intense early 80s-style Caution jam. I was surprised to find this just now.

The Music Never Stopped
Dec. 1, 1979
Stanley Theater

A unique beginning with nice peaks to both the mid jam and the outro.

Mississippi Halfstep Uptown Toodeloo
Feb. 4, 1979
Dane County Coliseum

The final Keith and Donna Half Step stands up well, even though there's one lonely AUD.

Mississippi Halfstep Uptown Toodeloo
May 11, 1979
Billerica Forum

An early Brent Mydland Half Step with electric piano pre rio grandeo and a joyful Garcia solo afterwards.

Sugaree
Oct. 18, 1978
Winterland Arena

No fanning or soaring peaks, but solo 3 (7:45-12:45 on CM's SBD) is a new favorite - sublime, mellow, laid back.

I value your judgment. And I love the song too. I might make listening to the 77 half steps my next project - I know some, but not all - and I know that 10/7 is not on the archive. We'll have to talk.

Well, darkstar, I certainly hold your dead thoughts in high esteem. Indeed, you've shown me some half steps - most recently that 9/1/79 one. I'm surprised that you - and many others - don't like this version. To be honest, I hear 11/6 as a sloppier version than 11/5 and I hear a less faithful source. The guys who used to run the now defunct dead clubhouse site used to talk about the bias that comes with the first version that one gets into. 9/3/77 was the first one for me, but when I heard this one that changed. At any rate, to each his own, my friend.

I agree, Grendel, and I usually do with your posts. '77 is the year. Lately I've been enjoying the very few half steps from the fall of '79. I will throw my hat in with this DP34 version as the best. The pre rio grandeo is my absolute favorite episode for this song. I fill out my top 5 like this: 9/3/77, 11/6/77, 5/17/77 and 10/28/79. I hope this post from Grendel elicits a nice thread.
