Eyes Of The World
Jan. 17, 1979
New Haven Coliseum

Several relentless guitar passages throughout.

Wharf Rat
Jan. 10, 1979
Nassau Coliseum

Hard to believe this is an AUD. 8:00-8:40 is a good example - crystal clear and tight.

Row Jimmy
Jan. 10, 1979
Nassau Coliseum

Not too fast and not too slow with some nice double time at the end.

Playin' In The Band
Jan. 6, 1978
Swing Auditorium

Jerry has laryngitis, so only Bobby tunes set 2 this day, and Keith Godchaux takes over the 2nd half of this PITB, especially the last 5 minutes.

Deal
June 22, 1983
City Island

This is an eleven minute Deal with a bunch of ebbs, flows and peaks.

Eyes Of The World
Sept. 12, 1981
Greek Theater

This is really Eyes > Jam. It starts at '77 speed and then gets to contemporaneous hyperspeed. It's better than starting at cocaine hyperspeed. The two breaks are amazing - blitzkrieg butterfly. There is a unique jam to follow into a pre drums minispace. It starts slow but they get into something interesting, if you are into those kinds of somethings.
Estimated Prophet

Jerry Garcia plays fast. The tone he uses is heavy on bass, soft and jazzy. This is good.
China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
Sept. 12, 1981
Greek Theater

The highlight of the show for me is this china cat. Jerry Garcia is playing the guitar like a toy, hammering the first programmed "solo" as hard as possible. The transition is the absolute shit. I dare you to listen to this. The rider is good, but after the transition they're coasting to intermission. China>Rider before the break and S>F after. Just saying these people are right about the setlist.
Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain
Sept. 12, 1981
Greek Theater

I'll vote this for the fire because I like the first two breaks in that song. But I have expectations for this year and this song that are not entirely met. The transition is a tad disappointing in spots. It still kills a bunch of 90s S>F for me, but to each his own, right?
Bird Song
Sept. 12, 1981
Greek Theater

The solo doesn't start well for my taste, but the place that it gets to is a dark kind of jazz that I love. This is "top something", though I don't have more than 10 versions of this I really know by date so I don't want to overstate it. But it's good.
