Eyes Of The World
Jan. 17, 1979
New Haven Coliseum

Several relentless guitar passages throughout.

Wharf Rat

Nassau Coliseum

Hard to believe this is an AUD. 8:00-8:40 is a good example - crystal clear and tight.

Row Jimmy
Jan. 10, 1979
Nassau Coliseum

Not too fast and not too slow with some nice double time at the end.

Playin' In The Band

Swing Auditorium

Jerry has laryngitis, so only Bobby tunes set 2 this day, and Keith Godchaux takes over the 2nd half of this PITB, especially the last 5 minutes.

Deal
June 22, 1983
City Island

This is an eleven minute Deal with a bunch of ebbs, flows and peaks.

Shakedown Street
Sept. 12, 1981
Greek Theater

My new favorite. I just listened to this show because some were talking about the setlist, which is quite good. Jerry backs off here around the 8 minute mark and builds it back in to a great band moment. I will revisit this one.
New Potato Caboose
Aug. 24, 1968
Shrine Auditorium

I bought this in the fall of 1995. Every time I hear it, suddenly the leaves are turning and the days are getting shorter - no matter what the time of year. This one is burned so deeply into my unconscious that I don't think I could objectively describe it. It's more of a life experience than a grateful dead song.
The Other One
Oct. 21, 1978
Winterland Arena

This is how you introduce a song when you submit it. This version of the O1 really cannot be divorced from its immediate neighborhood. In addition, it's clear that the person who submitted this actually listened to the damn song.
Eyes Of The World
Oct. 10, 1980
Warfield Theater

This is a good pick. This show was recently on John Henrikson's Deadpod. There's more, great music from October 1980 than you can say of most other months.
U.S. Blues (Wave That Flag)
Oct. 21, 1978
Winterland Arena

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the greatest United States Blues. Giant, fat barre chords, ominous sounding bass lines and Bobby destroys one of the later verses on the slide. Jerry Garcia murders the guitar and steals your wife.
