Absolute madness. Pigpen takes the Hammond for an extended stroll, and Jerry ends up on an acoustic before it's over.

Shakedown Street
Sept. 18, 1987
Madison Square Garden

I defy anyone to listen to the building crowdgasm and it's eventual disco climax, and not smile. I think from the initial notes of the 2nd set, this crowd *knew* the big furry music beast was going to be slithering out the speakers all night long.
All Along the Watchtower
Sept. 18, 1987
Madison Square Garden

Love the reverb, love the crowd, love the fire in Jerry's belly, I even love Bob's pathological need to over-do it. All that adrenaline and punch just gushes into a beautiful Dew. I'll agree with S&R above, but add.....the stuff before drums is pretty damned hot, too ;^)
Row Jimmy
March 20, 1977

Brokedown Palace
Dec. 10, 1973

download series 8 - this one is worth the price of admission all by itself.
St. Stephen
June 24, 1970
Capitol Theatre

You know that whole 'tension and release' thing? Yah? I think somewhere in the last minute of this tune, the Dead invented black metal. It's an almost Viola-ish (in frantic-ness, not tune) pop.
