Turn On Your Love Light
June 20, 1969
Fillmore East

Absolute madness. Pigpen takes the Hammond for an extended stroll, and Jerry ends up on an acoustic before it's over.

You got to admit that that sweet, sweet jelly's so good

Acoustic guitar gunslingers.

I Know You Rider
May 7, 1970
DuPont Gym - MIT

Another piece of awesome slightly obscured by being a 1970 audience recording.

The benediction at the end of this night's religious experience.

Dark Star
June 24, 1970
Capitol Theatre

This one is as much about what's woven in and out of the Darkstar as the Darkstar itself, but it's just all good. All. Good. 1st hunk of Darkstar stays within the 'DS theme' for the duration, grinding into feedback-lite and Mickey playing with the all important gongs. After a beautiful Attics, the 2nd segment rockets around for a few minutes before a downright biblical Tighten-up Jam and a Feelin' Groovy segue into Sugar Mag (!!!). The last DS verse follows in short and sweet fashion, but you're not done yet. Just let the rest of the set play. The recording isn't the greatest, but it's absolutely listenable - and entirely worth listening to.
Black Muddy River
July 9, 1995
Soldier Field

It's hard to rate having your guts ripped out. For pure emotional punch, this is the one that always pokes me in the boo-boo, tho.
Good Lovin'
April 17, 1971
Dillon Gym

If you've somehow made it to this point in your life, and you've never heard either 4-17 or 4-25 1971 versions of this song, you really should remedy this. Quickly. The saga of "The Bidnessman" is only part of the fun, these tunes smoke from start to finish.
Good Lovin'
April 25, 1971
Fillmore East

I've come to the conclusion that at some point in April of 1971, Pigpen really, really, really wanted a refrigerator repairman...but he kept getting jersey cows and the Brooklyn bridge instead.
Johnny B. Goode
July 2, 1971
Fillmore West

I'm willing to agree with Jerry - this really is the one it's all about.
