The Other One
Nov. 20, 1973
Denver Coliseum

the jam out of Truckin' has a nice 3 minute Phil/Bill duo - Other One proper starts with the customary bang, but quickly wanders for noodlier pastures, and at about 3:20 things just come together into a hunk of sustained bliss, finding the song again in a couple of minutes. After the lyrics, things slide into spaciness that resolves itself into a MLB jam and a segue into Stella that just feels natural - like every Stella should start that way.
Playin' In The Band
Aug. 27, 1972
Old Renaissance Faire Grounds

the Playin' and Dark Star from this show seem less like a concert or performance, and more like audio evidence that Jerry Garcia saved the earth by fighting off inter-dimensional space aliens with his guitar.
Morning Dew
April 29, 1971
Fillmore East

beautiful - mellow yet still powerful.
Dark Star
Aug. 27, 1972
Old Renaissance Faire Grounds

It's the soundtrack you'd expect to hear in your head if you were being chased thru the woods by an ax murderer. It's a brain-movie that almost demands closed eyes during, and an inspection under your bed for monsters after. Epic.
Hard to Handle
April 29, 1971
Fillmore East

After much deliberation, I've come to the conclusion that the answer to the question "8-6-71 or 4-29-71?' is the following: Yes, thank you.
