Probably the best 'Bobby Segment' on this tune that I've heard, and Pig at his greasy best.

The Other One
Dec. 14, 1971
Hill Auditorium

Beautiful 'Cryptical', nice little 3 minute drum clinic from Bill, and then they're off into the wild bluegreenredyellow yonder. 2 minutes in, and they pop the 'Other One' bubble in favor of quiet meanderings that pulse to the surface several times, eventually building into the familiar triplets several times, a near Me and My Uncle segue that Jerry waves off (they had played it in the 1st set, after all), and then a decision that lyrics might be a good idea somewhere prior to 8 minutes in. Post lyrics, things stay in that expansive-quiet jam-noodle mode until somewhere around minute 15, where a lounge-porno jam leads the band back into Other One. Fun 20 minute journey. Tangential, but with the exception of 9/23/72, this is the last of 'Cryptical->drums-Other One' until a short revisitation in 85.

For some reason, I ended up listening to 12-14-71 instead, and commented based on that - decided to post that up, too. Now that I'm listening to the right track, I've got to say this is a tight tasty little gut punch. Phil is in top form, and Billy is straight killing it.
Truckin'
Aug. 24, 1972
Berkeley Community Theatre

Very nice. You wouldn't think the acoustics and 'feel' of a venue would matter that much with a soundboard, but *every* BCT show just has that stellar sound. Fillmore West and Winterland have their own 'sound', same with the energy that seemed to permeate the walls in the Fillmore East...but for just plain pristine sound, nothing really tops the BCT. Great rendition with Keith on organ.

The path to get to this song is simply amazing, and once they get there, it aint too shabby either. Being sandwiched between a face melter of a jam and Cold Rain instead of NFA let this one be beautifully calm and subdued - the head-space is just so differently decorated.

Yah, if you ever wondered what Darkstar was before it was Darkstar....it was apparently Dancin'. This is musically like shaking hands with protoplasmic goo from the bottom of the evolutionary tree. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty interesting goo.
