Garcia's solos roll like lightning & rock like thunder. Sings it w/gusto, too. Not to be missed.

Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain

The very definition of "underrated." Almost lost to time& yet it kills. No flubbed verses, great steady reggae jams;perfect transition. Please try it.

Jerry sounds "just like Wolfman Jack" when he growwwlllzzz out the final chorus on "Goodbye Mama & Papa...!" Whole version is aces back to back!

Jerry in especially soulful voice on this completely perfecto version from one of the best shows of '82. If you like 4-6 Spectrum, you'll love this.

Playin' In The Band

Augusta Civic Center
My favorite "sandwich" version, this PITB actually begins in the 2nd set as reprise from the previous night! Insane weaving thru UJB/Space/Dew

^^^^You have me intrigued, sir, as RJ is one of my all time faves and 3/20/77 is the undisputed absolute king of them all, and in fact Jerry's 2d solo in that version is I truly believe one of the greatest musical passages the band ever offered. I wonder if you could point me to the best source for this show before I check this one out?
Mississippi Halfstep Uptown Toodeloo
Aug. 19, 1980
Uptown Theatre
I'm eager to hear if you guys can find a better source. This feels like an amazing show but I can't really enjoy the ones i've heard so far b/c he mixes are just a mess with some instruments just sounding like they're being played from behind a curtain or something. It's a shame b/c there's some great playing here that's not coming across on any source I've tried to this point. (I think even CM in his notes said there wasn't much he could do)

Yep. Well chosen by Latvala. This one does have a lengthy and juicy outro.

Shoulda upped this ages ago. Lots of crescent city swagger and one of the few times the MIDI does some good (the aforementioned Jerry trumpet sound works here). Long, jammy, very danceable top notch version.
Shakedown Street
April 16, 1984
Community War Memorial Auditorium
I'd suggest the Miiller SBD, a very fine source for a grossly underrated show. Love this Shake for the sheer goofy funk it delivers...the goofy part is the final vocal join in and dang if they ain't all hamming it up and having a grand time doing it. Jerry slays his solos and Bobby works double time keeping the faster paced rhythm. More I hear from this show the more I like.
