The Other One
Sept. 18, 1970
Fillmore East

Great version from the fall of 1970 with some intense Phil, wah usage from Jerry, and energetic jamming. Definitely underrated

Feelin' Groovy Jam

Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall

How is this not already here? The last two minutes of a 31min Dark Star, has to be the fastest, most energetic rendition. Leads into Dew!

That moment when Billy kicks in around the 23min mark and the jam that follows has to be one of the best moments in Dead history...just breathtaking
Friend of the Devil

Horton Field House - Illinois State University

I'm not a huge fan of the slowed-down version of this song, but this version is my go to and probably the best
The Other One
April 7, 1972
Wembley Empire Pool

That little section the band breaks into for like 10 seconds around 3:17 of the second Other One track on Steppin' Out is sooooo good. EDIT: I’m back years later to say wow does this version absolutely kill in the best way possible. I’m a few years deeper into my understanding and appreciation of this band and while some of the other versions from E72 (4/11, 4/26, 5/7, and 5/24 specifically) are some of my most listened to Dead songs, this version had kind of fallen off my radar. Just picked up the new RSD release on a whim and this version just dips through so many awesome themes and never lets up. The El Paso contained within is awesome. 10/10 version, a new favorite that I know will get a lot of play time from me in the near future

Brokedown Palace
Sept. 16, 1972
Boston Music Hall

I can't believe that this one doesn't come up in discussions of best Brokedown Palaces. Emerges out of a very solid Dark Star and is beautifully played/sung
