Good version in an epic concert. One of the best bits of the first set. Second set is cosmic 73 stuff.

St. Stephen
April 28, 1971
Fillmore East

Totally agree with DeadHead21. St Stephen after 71 is poorer. I cannot understand the votes for post-71 versions. Eugene is OK, but for other reasons, and only just creeps onto my one-CD version of that show. If CD's only had 70 minutes of music, it wouldn't be on it.

Just listened to this again. Brilliant, epic, mega. Superb jamming, highlight of an interesting show with lots of old gems of early Dead. Rushed to vote for it, and found I already had some time in the past. I recommend the whole show, but especially this track.

Cuddly Bear, try June 7 '69. That's even better, IMO, and Doin' That Rag is a best too. June 7 '69 converted me to two songs I had previously always skipped. The whole concert is grand, but the sound quality deteriorates a bit for the last two tracks, which is a great shame.

Good vocals by Bob, well executed all round. There is a consistency of treatment at this show that does something special to this and Row Jimmy, for example (as well as a mind blowing Scarlet), but is not so suitable for Minglewood, which just seems to amble.

Re-heard this one just today. It's only been a couple of months since I last heard it, if that, .... but WOW it just totally blew my mind all over again. Rushed to vote it up, and found I already had before. The Row Jimmy is the perfect coolant to come down to after loosing your marbles on this one.
