Nowt wrong with the Ladies and Gentlemen version, better than many here, deserves a mention

This is the best post-74 WF, IMO, far better than Albuquerque. As cgarces said, the complete second set (Disc 3 of DP 18) is a cracker. Try the Dusborne matrix. With a little bit of editing and leaving out "Drums" (and Bob's joke and tuning) you can fit it all on one CD including the US Blues encore missing from the DP.

Best S&D because Bob's mike breaks and they have to guitar-jam instead of Bob screaming. But don't let that make you think this show is a one-hit wonder. The whole second set is well worth down loading. Get the dusborne matrix of the second set. Every track is smoking. Don't get the DP over-priced second-hand if it's no longer on official sale, the other concert on it is not worth it.

I don't think this is as good as Feb 18 '71, or Apr 26 '71, or Dec 2 '73, or Jun 26 '74. So I disagree with the idea that it is only second in this poll because of this or that reason. [added] I have listened to this another couple of times, and my opinion has hardened. I think it is poor. Wharf Rat was best 71-74, but if you want a post-74 version, try Feb 5 '78, which is better. In fact the whole show is better. IMO, Oct 7 '77 was an uninspired evening when the Muse was missing. Yes, this Wharf Rat has two minutes of good guitar-work between 08:00 and 10:00, but that is not much for The Grateful Dead, and the last 3 minutes are emotionally flat techno-disco, totally unsuitable to the song.

Great though May '77 is, some of the FOTMs in that month had over-use, and simplistic over-use, of the Mutron, which I believe was a new gadget. I might be technically or musically wrong in my labeling, but I am sure you can guess what I mean. By Feb '78 Jerry had mellowed to a more sophisticated and varied use of the envelope modifier (?). You must listen to this. Jerry's modified guitar work is stunning and beautiful. This is one of the top two or three versions I have ever heard.
