Really enjoying Phil on this.

Definitely good for the era, but considering that it's in the company of 11/1/79, 10/14/83, and 4/20/84, I have to slap the overrated tag on this one. I can listen to any of those other versions I mentioned and feel like I need a cigarette afterward because they're so satisfying. This doesn't do that for me, but it's justifiably long and a nice late-period show of vitality for Jerry, so I have no issue with revisiting this on occasion.

I'm guessing this gets overlooked in the shadow of the titanic 4/20/84 version, but much like 3/31 and 4/13/84, there's plenty to enjoy here. The Scarlet here sounds like the band is trying to get in sync, while Jerry's voice is worn and a bit sluggish. Things pick up in the bridge jam, moving to a nice goopy transition jam, and Jerry really comes to life during Fire. While maybe on the whole not as strong as any of the previously mentioned versions, this should at least be in double digits. Anyone who enjoys 83-84 Scarlet-Fires as I do should check this out.

Nice thick tone from Jerry in the Scarlet bridge, a crescendo in the transition jam that really demands attention, and a well-engaged Fire. This one's probably a bit better than 8/6/82.
