Dire Wolf
May 5, 1978
Thompson Arena - Dartmouth College

Short and sweet (unlike a real Dire Wolf, which would be kinda big and scary). Loping and fun for all, including Donna! He won't murder her! No way!

Lack of lyrics for a nice while turns this into an excellent jam.
Wharf Rat
June 20, 1983
Merriweather Post Pavilion

Lighting strikes, Phil goes bananas, the crowd goes berserk, just as they hit that moment, "I'll get up and fly away..." And then the Sugar Mags..... The epitome of a Dead show.
Jack Straw

Carrier Dome, Syracuse U

Impossible to pick a best ever Jack Straw, but this is a great one....
Pretty Peggy O

Cascading and lilting and gorgeous and lush....!!! Like most "Best Ever" versions, it takes a while for Jerry and the Boys to take us there. Most "Best Ever" versions start off as just another average, ordinary version (which is great, too!). But then, maybe half-way through, maybe sooner, maybe later, we realize we are listening to something beyond description. This "Best Ever" is the epitome of that. So ridiculously fantastic and inspiring.
