Maybe just another Wheel, but this show, especially after the Lay Me Down, felt to be all about recovering after saying good-bye to Brent.....

China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
Sept. 15, 1987
MSG

Classic China-Rider from a great run. 9/18/87 is legendary, but this show, and a lot of the shows from this tour, just as fantastic.

Probably the best, definitely the highlight of a classic first set, a gigantic part of why this show is historic. When the jam takes off, it soars! All '77 versions are great, but this one is ridiculous! Perfect for folks unfamiliar with the Dead for sure. Need to say, 5/2/70 is still insanely brilliant and hot (like the second half of Good Lovin' that night, when they soar out of those drums... I do enjoy plugging the Harpur College version, still can't believe the Good Lovin' is still under 50 votes... can't believe this one is under 100) And it's true, the Primal versions and the '77 (etc.) versions should almost be listed separately... VERY DIFFERENT BEASTS.
