Playin' In The Band
Aug. 20, 1972
San Jose Civic Auditorium

A good cure for those 'No 'Cid Blues'. This one is a gem.

Morning Dew
Oct. 18, 1972
Fox Theater

Part of the first Playin' sandwich. The transition back into Playin' is like the cops kicking your door in at 4 a.m. it is so sudden and surprising.

Turn On Your Love Light
April 5, 1971
Manhattan Center

An aural honeypot capping a dynamite show.

Dark Star
Nov. 7, 1969
Fillmore Auditorium

A breezy and pleasant intro gives way to a monstrous intra-verse portion that features some 'Uncle John's Band'-themed jamming.

Dark Star
Oct. 28, 1972
Cleveland Public Hall

Serene, frenetic, diffuse, cluttered--in short, this one goes through more changes than David Bowie's hair. Pheatures a phleshed out 'Philo Stomp'.

Weather Report Suite
May 14, 1974
Adams Field House, U of Montana

One of those 'I wish it would never end' outro jams. Also makes me wish that WRS would be broken into multiple tracks on official releases, as I'm not immortal and I want to get to the heart of the matter as quickly as possible with this stuff sometimes (although WRS Parts 1 and 2 are perfectly fine here). Nevertheless, I am impressed by this version, as well as by the show in general.
Days Between
Dec. 11, 1994
Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Stadium

From an email written by R. Hunter to Jerry one year after the latter's death: 'Obviously, faith in the underlying vision which spawned the Grateful Dead might be hard to muster for those who weren't part of the all night rap sessions circa 1960-61 ... sessions that picked up the next morning at Kepler's bookstore then headed over to the Stanford cellar or St. Mike's to continue over coffee and guitars. There were no hippies in those days and the beats had bellied up. There was only us vs. 50's consciousness. There no jobs to be had if we wanted them. Just folk music and tremendous dreams. Yeah, we dreamed our way here. I trust it. So did you. Not so long ago we wrote a song about all that, and you sang it like a prayer. The Days Between. Last song we ever wrote.' Days Between
March 11, 1993
Rosemont Horizon

More tender than stark and a nice outro to wrap it up.
The Other One
April 26, 1972
Jahrhunderthalle

Retains interest throughout each of its comprising movements.
