Jer's voice and guitar full of passion. Brings it all back home after a great stretch of tasty jams.

Pretty but Powerful. Donna sounds great this whole Summer but the boys bring the punch here, too, especially toward the end.

This version probably suffers here because of the relatively poor available recordings, but Garcia’s voice is full of passion and he makes Alligator scream during the outtro. Also notable for ending a very long sequence of He’s Gone -> Other One -> Stella that’s full of tasty jams, during one of the Dead’s many top-notch shows in JC Chilltown. ***edit - upon listening to this show after writing above comment, I saw this previous comment and realize it was in response to a different Stella - from the 9/19/72 show, not this one in July '72. Sorry!

JG wrings the pinch harmonics for all they're worth after the "kicked my dog" lyric. Overall really hot, well-played, feelin'-it version.

Very sweet jam after the final refrain with the whole band feeding off each other. As the OP states this one will get overlooked because of the quality of the recording but you can feel the emotion reach through the low fidelity!

Interesting how JG seems to be trying out a new melody for the beginning of the verses on this still somewhat early rendition - before they recorded it for Wake of the Flood.

Truer to the Jimmy Reed original with Jerry singing. Matt Kelly sitting in on harp probably inspired this bust-out.
