Wildly exuberant both before and after "SSDD" vocals. And Billy is all over this great AUD.

Swings and shimmies before busting out the heavy artillery.

Friend of the Devil
Oct. 25, 1989
Miami Arena

Played pretty fast (for the slow version) and heavy with MIDI and spirited playing. Not to everyone’s taste, perhaps, but I like it!

Sparkling rendition. Fans of upbeat '89 versions like 7/7 should check this out.

Sharp, feisty version with Jerry and Brent setting up a beautiful, dreamy -> Terrapin

The Other One

San Diego International Sports Arena

The second segment of TOO is what gets me. Briefly toys with a Dark Star swing. Everyone is fully melded and reading one another’s mind at 115 mph. I don’t like it quite as much as the 11/21 PITB triple-decker — heck, maybe not as much as the 11/20 or 11/23 TOOs — but that tells you how high the bar is, because this is incredible.
He's Gone

The song itself is taken too slowly for my tastes (especially noticeable on the already slow RT board), but the jam is molten, heavy, and a little menacing. This shouldn’t be ranked too far below 10/27 or 12/1.

This one really jams! 1977-78 is an interesting time for The Other One because some versions start to get pretty unremarkable and indistinguishable … but other times, you get prime ’70s jamming.

It takes a lot to get me to upvote an A&A. Well, this one passes muster.
