Pretty Peggy O
Nov. 20, 1985
Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center

Seemingly looser and jammier than some, with some great musical conversations.

Candyman
July 5, 1978
Omaha Civic Auditorium

Slick, efficient Garcia solo, plus some cool flourishes by the Godchauxs.

Friend of the Devil
June 12, 1976
Music Hall

Perfectly phrased and chosen melody lines from Jerry. Another astonishing FOTD of the era.

Samson and Delilah
June 10, 1976
Boston Music Hall

Phil’s and Jerry’s sixteenth-note runs light up this version with a country-blues twang faintly reminiscent of Cumberland.

Space
June 27, 1983
Poplar Creek Music Theater

Shimmering, dazed Space highlighted by some of Brent’s wildest keyboard tones and textures.

Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain
March 28, 1993
Knickerbocker Arena

This is a few clicks better than "standard." I can think of lots of versions -- from years that are better than '93 -- that don't have this kind of flow or overall impact. This is tight, groovy Grateful Dead with generous, tuneful, animated contributions by Jerry. A recommended jam to sample from a generally strong Knickerbocker run.
Estimated Prophet

Check out the Seamons matrix. I certainly don’t recall the official release sounding this good. Now I’m giving this whole run a closer look.

Powerful Dew!

The Spectrum

Wow! Brent and Jerry sound they’re playing funeral music at one point. Really weird, which is a good thing.
The Wheel
April 25, 1983
The Spectrum

As has been said, there’s a unique (if brief) jam between The Wheel proper and Playin’ that makes this version worth hearing.
