Me and My Uncle
Sept. 14, 1978
Sphinx Theatre
Carries forward the energy and vibe of the preceding Ollin>NFA. Kind of mesmerizing.

When I Paint My Masterpiece
Oct. 27, 1990
The Zenith
Eloquent Jerry solo elevates this one unexpectedly.

U.S. Blues (Wave That Flag)
July 7, 1978
Red Rocks Amphitheatre
Don’t always love the ’78s for this tune, but this howling version certainly warrants attention.

The Eleven
April 4, 1969
Avalon Ballroom
Another brilliant April '69 Eleven that just doesn't let up. Forceful, but totally unforced.

Turn On Your Love Light
April 4, 1969
Avalon Ballroom
Brilliantly strange. T.C.'s organ adds stuttering weirdness to a churning groovathon.

Not Fade Away
Sept. 28, 1975
Lindley Meadows, Golden Gate Park
Wild, Jerry-led psychedelic thrill ride. More akin to the primal Dead versions before the song hooked up with GDTRFB than either the '72-'74 or '76-'78 versions. Totally unique, like much of middle child '75.
Bird Song
July 3, 1988
Oxford Plains Speedway
Agree with cgarces, but what a highlight! This is stellar.
Touch of Grey
July 3, 1988
Oxford Plains Speedway
Close to perfect. Succeeds as an ’80s pop performance as well as, you know, Grateful Dead.
Truckin'
July 5, 1978
Omaha Civic Auditorium
You’ll be tempted to up-vote just for the way Phil sings “busted.”
