Mama Tried
March 19, 1977
Winterland Arena
Deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as the other punchy, galloping ’77s.

Jack Straw
Sept. 9, 1974
Alexandra Palace
If you’re like me, you love the intensity of these ’74 Jack Straws. This one is not to be missed.

Bertha
Sept. 9, 1974
Alexandra Palace
Swinging funk akin to a ’73 TLEO. Different and sharply played.

Franklin's Tower
Aug. 19, 1980
Uptown Theatre
Jerry’s playing with amazing ease and fluidity. One shimmering melody after another.

Me and Bobby McGee
June 28, 1974
Boston Garden
Played fast, sounding almost triumphant. Very cleanly played with some attention-grabbing Jerry.

Lloyd Noble Center - University of Oklahoma
I think this might be the best of fall ’77! Really do not miss this one.
West L.A. Fadeaway
June 23, 1990
Autzen Stadium
A really terrific version of a song I don’t ordinarily care much about. One for the summer ’90 highlight reel.
Help On The Way > Slipknot > Franklin's Tower
Oct. 12, 1983
Madison Square Garden
Busy, clanging Slipknot! here. Very interesting and worthy of multiple listens.
Friend of the Devil
May 17, 1978
Uptown Theater
There are obvious flaws — it takes them a few moments to get on the same beat — but this weird, jagged version is like no other I’ve heard. A great example of whatever the fuck was going on in ’78 that made it so different from every other year.
Lazy Lightnin' -> Supplication
May 17, 1978
Uptown Theater
Fresh, rowdy, and fast. The way the band (mostly) keeps this from going off the rails is both thrilling and impressive.
