Space
Sept. 4, 1979
Madison Square Garden

Super heady, effects-drenched Space that suggests what a fall ’79 Dark Star might’ve sounded like.

Promised Land
Feb. 22, 1974
Winterland Arena

This really gets cookin’! Keith, Billy, and Jerry seem to be playing little rhythmic games, switching up the accents in interesting ways.

Goin' Down The Road Feelin' Bad
Feb. 22, 1974
Winterland Arena

Splendid set closer with delightfully boisterous contributions from Keith and a permeating feeling of real joy.

Stella Blue
July 21, 1984
Ventura County Fairgrounds

Sweetly melodic outro, well-played. I really enjoyed this Space > Other One > Stella.

Forceful and confident, with rowdy playing from Bobby and Brent in particular.

Looks Like Rain
May 11, 1977
St. Paul Civic Center Arena

There are so many unbelievably great LLRs in ’76–’77, and, well, here’s another one. But this one also stands out even in that company because of all these detailed flourishes by Phil, Jerry, and especially Keith.
Uncle John's Band
May 15, 1977
St. Louis Arena

There are moments of pulse-quickening, heartbreaking beauty. Astounding.
Wharf Rat
May 15, 1977
St. Louis Arena

Don’t be surprised — Wharf Rat wasn’t played at this show!
Help On The Way > Slipknot > Franklin's Tower
March 30, 1990
Nassau Coliseum

I like this version! Not more than the best ’70s versions, but that’s beside the point — this kicks ass. One thing I haven’t seen mentioned yet: Jerry teases the China Cat > Rider jam (one of the licks he played in the ’80s and ’90s) in the middle of Slipknot!
Help On The Way > Slipknot > Franklin's Tower
March 29, 1983
Warfield Theater

Damn!! Sharp playing to match the high energy of the first California Help>Slip! in six years. Phil's thumping away like it's '77. Brent sounds like he's been playing H>S for years -- and I, for one, really love the marimba patch, which makes an appearance. I'm enjoying the Schley AUD.
