The best Mr. Charlie from the Academy of Music run of March 1972 (in my opinion) Follows a fantastic "You Win Again"

First time they had played it in years, and a perfect version, which you don't get many with this song. P-e-r-f-e-c-t. Go listen, you'll see.

Listening to it now, it burns! Vocally it's very good, not perfect, but nothing to cringe over. But instrumentally they are definitely a hot-shit band!

Really outstanding, distinctive version, very cool funky Pigpen organ in the beginning, Jerry sings the entire song great, peels off a fantastic solo, very very cool. Again great interplay during Keith's piano solo with Pigpen and Weir contributing some great moments.

Those harmonies in the middle, otherworldly. For me it's this one, and December 2, 1973, Boston Music Hall. It's almost a tie. The Boston one might have the edge, but these are the two "go-two" Wharf Rats for me, for the last 30 years.

This one, and the Orpheum 76 (forget which date, the best of the run, where it goes in and out of St. Stephen). But this one is THE version for me. The one thing the Orpheum has for it is the otherworldly harmonies on the break. But for me, this one. And this entire show, holy smokes. A five star, absolute top notch show. (the Orpheum too).

Bobby is AMAZING on this (and this whole show). Phil is also fantastic on this one, the vocals are perfect, Keith is right in there, the whole groove is fantastic right from the intro to the end. This is a heck of a show, the entire thing, an amazing setlist on paper that delivers. Many songs from this show are contenders for 'best ever".
