Mind Left Body Jam
Oct. 30, 1973
Kiel Auditorium

Sandwiched between a dreamy Dark Star. Not the definitive version perhaps, but it belongs in the discussion.

Harpur College

Can believe this one isn't already here! A beautiful version from one of the top five shows ever played.

Casey Jones

Strand Lyceum

Near flawless version from a near flawless tour. The whole band is locked in on the home stretch here, and keith is hammerin' away on those ivories..

Beat it on Down The Line
May 3, 1972
Olympia Theater

Tight, inspired, rockin'. Best of the Euro '72 run. Give it some love, folks!

Deal
May 11, 1972
Rotterdam Civic Hall

One knows from Jerry's opening vocals "cost a lot to win" sung with extra twang, that it's gonna be rockin' with that good county, funky vibe.

Brokedown Palace
June 25, 1995
RFK Stadium

^Well said, 'Grendal'. I think Brokedown is one that will carry on through the ages, a true American hymn that fires the spirit and tugs at the heart strings. This song is one that arguably sounded better with age; a bit more season and wisdom in the voices only enhances the emotive feeling. It haunts and soothes... R.I.P. Robert Hunter.
Help On The Way > Slipknot > Franklin's Tower
Sept. 24, 1976
William and Mary College Hall

Couldn't agree more with the above comments. I still think 8/13/75 is the gold standard for Slipknot in terms of precision, but the Slipknots of '76 are spellbinding for their daring and unbridled spirit for musical exploration.
Supplication
Sept. 24, 1976
William and Mary College Hall

Firm, yet supple.
Playin' In The Band
Sept. 24, 1976
William and Mary College Hall

The one-off Playin'->Supplication->Playin' is a tasty sandwich to jam. While the versions taken individually are not definitive, it's the collective suite that sparkles. The segues in and out of Supplication exemplify the musical masterly that we've come to expect and love from this band (yet it still blows our minds every time). Just like the Here Comes Sunshine->China->Rider of 2/9/73, this combo is a unique, one time only occurrence that we can only wish they'd explored further.
Promised Land
Sept. 24, 1976
William and Mary College Hall

All too often a 'warm-up' number that's phoned in. Not tonight, though...
