Deal

It swings to a funky swagger; Jerry is in top form here. I think it's the best Deal from the spring '73 tour!

Deal

Curtis Hixon Convention Hall

It struts & swaggers in that honey, country-tinged '73 way that we've come to relish & rely on. From one of the best shows from one of the best years.

A version all true heads should love, or at least hear once.

Monkey and the Engineer
Dec. 31, 1970
Winterland Arena

Jerry's sweet voice is extra sweet & clear during the chorus for this version than the ones from October, 1980.

Mason's Children

Honolulu Civic Auditorium

Monster Mason's. Can't believe this one isn't here yeat. Cleanest, most coherent version. Jerry's guitar tone is pure gold.

^Glad to hear you like this one as well, Ernie5. I'd even go as far as to say this show is overall the best of '74, if it weren't for 6/18.

^I'm close to agreeing, but don't forget about the beast that's 5/19/74!

Re: Ernie5: 6/30/85 your first show? Lucky you! That's one of those post '82 Dead shows I still spin regularly - a great night for the boys, indeed. You faired better than me: 3/20/93 was my first show, and saw 22 more shows including their final six. I wasn't under any illusions either; I had already worn out my Maxwell XLII's of 5/20/70, 8/27/72, 2/15/73, 6/18/74, 5/8/77 & 7/8/78. Those were key shows in regular rotation in trading circles during the late 80s/early nineties (in Virginia at least, and particularly at boarding schools). Like you, I still enjoyed much of the magic that can happen at a Grateful Dead show, even if it was rather late in the game...

^Hey Ernie5: Well said.

No Donna here, as she was home "gettin' big n' 'round" as bobby explains to the audience. Nice to hear just the boys sing on this one.
