Mind Left Body Jam

Kiel Auditorium

Sandwiched between a dreamy Dark Star. Not the definitive version perhaps, but it belongs in the discussion.

Can believe this one isn't already here! A beautiful version from one of the top five shows ever played.

Near flawless version from a near flawless tour. The whole band is locked in on the home stretch here, and keith is hammerin' away on those ivories..

Beat it on Down The Line

Olympia Theater

Tight, inspired, rockin'. Best of the Euro '72 run. Give it some love, folks!

Deal

Rotterdam Civic Hall

One knows from Jerry's opening vocals "cost a lot to win" sung with extra twang, that it's gonna be rockin' with that good county, funky vibe.

Playin' In The Band
March 24, 1973
The Spectrum

This one isn't the belter they pulled off on 3/16, but nonetheless this one's intriguing all the same. It's exploratory, patient, and esoteric in that jazzy, honey-tinged way that only '73 serves up. Well into the meat of the jam, Jerry dips out for a couple minutes (broken string?), allowing the rhythm section to really sport their chops. A somewhat different version here, if not altogether pretty stellar.
Bird Song
Feb. 22, 1973
Assembly Hall, University of Illinois

Wonderfully executed here. This comes from a show I feel gets overlooked by the monster shows played on 2/15, 2/26 & 2/28. But this show is a beautiful beast in its own right and needs more respect!

February '73 + Playin' = Sinfully delicious.
Here Comes Sunshine
March 22, 1973
Utica Memorial Auditorium

This tune blossomed by the end of the year, but there are two standout early versions, that were played on 2/15 and tonight! This version builds beautifully and needs more love.
Cumberland Blues
Nov. 17, 1972
Century II Convention Hall

My favorite from '72 for sure. The boys come out with guns blazing from the word go. Heady and hot!
