Mind Left Body Jam
Oct. 30, 1973
Kiel Auditorium
Sandwiched between a dreamy Dark Star. Not the definitive version perhaps, but it belongs in the discussion.

Can believe this one isn't already here! A beautiful version from one of the top five shows ever played.

Near flawless version from a near flawless tour. The whole band is locked in on the home stretch here, and keith is hammerin' away on those ivories..

Beat it on Down The Line

Olympia Theater
Tight, inspired, rockin'. Best of the Euro '72 run. Give it some love, folks!

Deal
May 11, 1972
Rotterdam Civic Hall
One knows from Jerry's opening vocals "cost a lot to win" sung with extra twang, that it's gonna be rockin' with that good county, funky vibe.

^Great link and website indeed my friend! I've made many comments there over the years. Check out my guest post on the 2/15/73 Madison show if you're interested. The band - particularly Phil & Jerry - liked to revisit thematic riffs and vamps in this era, but sometimes they were only flirtations rather then full on commitments. The famed "philo stomp" was played 4 times in '72: 10/18, 10/24, 10/28 & 11/13. All are splendid versions... only wish it wasn't dropped from rotation so soon!

Phil’s solo is raw and chunky, and it sounds like he's about to go into a Philo Stomp, but never goes there. Instead, he heads for feedback! Even better, he's not unaccompanied - throughout you can hear Jerry making ghostly noises behind him. Great version.
Truckin'
Nov. 2, 1977
Field House - Seneca College
9/3/77 reemerged Truckin' after a two year silence... It's a rocky and wild ride, while (not surprisingly) 11/6/77 gets the lion's share of attention for the year for the blues infused ending jam. But tonight's version is a bit cleaner and more straight forward rock n' roll. This one struts and gallops and is nearly "just exactly perfect". It's a pity this shows official release was truncated as "filler" for vol. 12 of Dave's picks. This show (just like 11/4/77) deserves the full release in all its glory...
