Lazy Lightnin' -> Supplication
Sept. 14, 1982
University of Virginia

This Supplication is quite top drawer, I say. What-ho.

This "Happiness is Drumming," (Hart) is proto-Fire, i.e., FOTM (Hart-Hunter) without lyrics.

The Other One
March 14, 1981
Hartford Civic Center

Already 324 O1s, so let me be clear about this O1. It is unspectacular, but uniquely it ends w/ Garcia playing Bach, "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring."

Scarlet Begonias

Market Square Arena

This one belongs here too. This is not a stand-alone rendition, but the solo hits a mind-blowing peak. The transition is good too.

Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall

Slow and heavy with thunderous bass. The slowness results in a slightly different take on the lyrics in certain spots.
Jack Straw

Allan Kirby Field House

Jerry's playing is reminiscent of the #1 version on this list (1/11/79) and for good reason. This rendition is only about four months later. It's much better than 2 votes would suggest.
Supplication

William and Mary College Hall

Excellent? Yes! Who doesn't love to experience the evolution of a song? Best ever? No, is the answer – for either incarnation.

This is a vacation in a sublime spot.

This one has quite a heady version pedigree. The founder submitted it, the regrettably absent (of late) AMDew and KLAUSSMITH were commenters, and so too hvd, Freedomhaul and darkstar67. I took a listen and I heard something great I’d never heard before. Some unique Garcia blues riffs from 8:00-8:30 and a lot of energy, as the others say.
