I'm happy this one is up there. Along with the guitar work and howls mentioned how about the work of Mickey and Billy. Seemed like Mickey was doing a consistent tribal rhythm and Billy was doing the fills. Interesting to me.
Goin' Down The Road Feelin' Bad
May 7, 1972
Bickershaw Festival

1972 Dead was the greatest band on earth. This is pure rock, country, with that perfect mix of Grateful Dead psychedelic. You can here Bobby's playing nicely here.
Morning Dew
Dec. 2, 1973
Music Hall

I also agree that this closer is better. More emotion and the band was fully on by then of course. Most years are great for Dew but extra beautiful for me cause of that jazzy 73 influence. Also, though I'm a huge Mickey Hart fan I thought Billy served Dew very well alone.
Help On The Way > Slipknot > Franklin's Tower
June 9, 1977
Winterland Arena

Phil's bass is absolutely bouncing on this, particularly opening of Help. I dont think I've ever heard the guy play a bad note.
Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain
March 27, 1988
Hampton Coliseum

As far as late era goes I find this better then Copps and at minimum as good as JFK 89. This is Jerry combining rock n roll with being a psychedelic rock start.
