Surprisingly good. Nice rave-up at the end, and Jerry's fills throughout are genuinely great.

Spacey, atonal version. Shows where they were headed in 95 - a lot of interesting sounds.

Cool version that Jerry starts and the band jumps on while Bob works out some gear issues. Last one ever, first in years, and only electric version.

Very powerful vocals from Jerry. Beyond intense "I guess it doesn't matter anyway"

Last version. Not perfect, but especially soulful. There's a nice new video up on youtube and jerry's very animated.

Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain

I would say this is overall more coherent than 10/14. Jerry always had fun on Fire, even in the last couple years, and that shows here. I think Scarlet is stronger here, the midi-flute transition really is great, and Fire is overall more well-played, but how can you beat the unreal peak of 10/14?

Thanks DS and GR for your understanding. Wouldn't want to lose having discussions with you guys - you both have very insightful commentary. perhaps a private email chain, forum, or text discussion might be best for these other chats? I'd be happy to join - nothing I love more than shooting the shit with other heads.

IMO, it's great that there is solely focused discussion here. If you want a general discussion board head on over to reddit. I avoid the reddit gd page these days for the exact reason that there is no deep discussion on specific versions of songs. That's why I'm here.

I love that these discussions get way out there. However, I'm wondering if anyone besides myself is in favor of keeping these comment threads focused on whatever song we're talking about. I like the various spinoff bands as much as the rest of you, but 5 or 6 comments in a thread for a 72 show that are discussing a recent phil show cause some confusion and can be a little off-putting. I think it's great that there's no moderation on this site - it's not necessary. But I do think that unfocused discussion can detract from the point - to discuss the best versions of GRATEFUL DEAD songs. Btw, probably best bird song of all time here, but some of the 90s ones with a heady strumming jam at the end can certainly compete - see 9/6/91.

Awesome version - spacey and strong. I always love Vince on this song. Jerry is high in the mix which is refreshing. The top-voted Memphis version has nearly no Jerry.
