Playin' In The Band

Nice Playin'. Jerry finds a few good riffs. Not usually a fan of late era playins, as Jerry's speedy playing is so integral. He plays pretty well here

Picture perfect. Soaring leads from Jerry and crashes exquistely back into the verse

Hot Playin>China Doll>Playin. Long and exploratory on both ends, especially for 84.

Very hot tour opener. Jerry's playing is excellent. This show is the only good one from this weird little run in Colorado.

Shockingly good. Only good things to say about the Boston Garden run from this tour. These first few nights allayed fears after awful summer tour.

Deal
Oct. 15, 1994
Madison Square Garden

Hotter than the oft-lauded 10/5 version. This one doesn't peter out in the same way. I still think that Jerry just didn't have the dexterity to play Deal well by 94, though. It's still a fun listen, but part of the joy of listening to a late-era Deal is the massive shredding that occurred. Jerry just isn't able to play those fast runs that make Deal so good by this time period.
Candyman
Oct. 15, 1994
Madison Square Garden

Great version. Jerry's vocals on the 94-95 versions of candyman are sublime (4/1/95 i'm looking at you!) and this is a fantastic solo - idk about Morning Dew but defintitely peaks!!
Shakedown Street
Oct. 15, 1994
Madison Square Garden

Gave this a vote because the entire band is playing so strongly - but Jerry just isn't there. I felt pretty let down, honestly, by how lost (or worse, bored) Jerry sounded playing on this shakedown. Idk what you guys are smoking

Shocking that anyone can play this fast. Jerry's the only guitarist ever who'd dare play so many notes so quickly with a clean tone.
Estimated Prophet

The Palace

Pretty damn good Estimated. This is one of those songs that stayed good (dare i say "improved"??) in the Vince era. Great meltdown indeed near the end, Garcia is playing strongly
