Aiko Aiko
March 18, 1995
The Spectrum

I think aiko is one of the hardest to pick best version for; it always brought out the best in the band. So after listening to an excellent version from the 80s I came to this site looking for the general consensus. Was shocked by seeing this one so high in the list…i mean…i was there and loved every minute of that entire Spring tour. But I had totally forgotten about this Aiko. Just watched for the first time in 30 plus years. And OMG: Jerry blew up the first jam right out the gates, the second midi jam is amazingly inspired (given it’s a midi jam), the end where he shakes his fist talkin bout his grandpa or some shit, and then refuses to quit the song and gets the crowd ROARING with his earnest best. When he was able to burst through his fog of those later years he knew not to let go; he would play like he knew he might be at his very best for the last time ever. those kind of moments from 94-95 he truly shined….thank you jerry indeed.

the first jam is subtle, unique and inspired but the final jam is exceptional- at least 2-3 minutes longer than usual…
