Egypt show - best 70s version. Closing 2 minutes of "Don't you let that Deal go down" coda is a raucous affair.

From "Ladies and Gentlemen" Fantastic version, better than a dozen others I know from formally released shows and Dick's. Can't believe it's not here.

Bertha
May 13, 1972
Lille Fairgrounds

I'll tell you why I voted for this show. Because it's better than any Bertha that came after 1972, with the possible exceptions: 2-5-78 11-4-77 4-22-78 Just one man's opinion. These Europe '72 Bertha's were all so so good. For me, the oldies mostly sounded best in '72. While I enjoy '77 as much as the next guy, it was not for renditions of songs that were being played in '72, it was for the newer stuff. There are some exceptions. Brown-Eyed Women grew nicely, and by mid-May '77, Jerry was playing this monster 3 bar guitar solo in it that was a rock-the-houser when he connected (5-25-77, 5-21-77, 11-4-77).

Yeah, the tone of Jerry's guitar, the mellow, but still incredibly cool jam....and listen to what the two drummers are doing, just fantastic - slow and almost menacing. Like God Of Thunder. And the multi-track sound quality....awesome stuff. Agree, there's something to the stand alone versions that is superior. In fact, I really can't get into versions where they butcher it up in two parts; just completely blows it for me.

With regard to Slipknot! - This used to be #1 for me due in no small part to the 9 minute duration. Jerry's guitar tone is also great, and he's on top of the mix. But.... I recently came into a great soundboard from 2/26/77, and wow....the Slipknot! will have you reconsidering your entire outlook on this triad. It's melodic, edgy, and tight like 5/22, and it's long like 6/9/77. Compared to 5/22 and 2/26 1977, there's something elemental missing from 6/9.

Whew - no, it's not just me. And no, I don't have to playback every Slipknot! wondering if I was asleep at the wheel when I'd heard them before. Yes, there is something outstanding in this Slipknot! that puts it in a class of its own....but I will playback every one to see if I can define the magic.
