They Love Each Other

I typically prefer the faster '73 arrangement but Jerry's solo in this one is just grade A rainbow syrup drizzled over a tall buttery stack of Keith's piano chords. Love it.

Blistering, scorching, face-melting ... just listen to this superlative Other One! Not too many AUDs from this era make the cut but I'd listen to way worse quality than this to hear such an intense piece of playing.

A personal favorite! Donna sounds so sweet, Keith is eloquent, and the rest of the band has that weird telepathic May '77 vibe, culminating in a big strumming peak. Very similar to 5/7 in feel and execution but just a notch below that masterpiece.

Other than a very minor vocal flub, this version is absolutely flawless. Its emotional weight, virtuosic execution, and inspirational inventiveness are on par with the Dew played the next night in Cornell. In fact, this is my single favorite song performance of '77, which feels weird to write, but I've been spinning this tape for 27 years and it never grows old.

This one's overripe and overrated. The bridge jam is harsh and peaky, and lacks the finesse and flow of the best versions. The post-Rio Grande jam is an exhausted band search of the inspiration they chased too hard earlier in the song. I understand what people like about this one but it just sounds forced to me.
