Jerry’s tone at this show makes this perhaps the heaviest version ever played!!!

Spirited MAMU > Big River! (Criminally underrated show)…

Friend of the Devil

Activity Center. Arizona State U

Transcendent version + with Jerr going full-on spacey! (Weird, like the whole show!)

Perfect encapsulation of this show: not a lot of highlights, but absolutely rippin’, at the same time.

Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain
Dec. 31, 1977
Winterland Arena

And the greatest “skipped-verse” version: 1/31/78, Uptown Theater.
Scarlet Begonias
Dec. 31, 1976
Cow Palace

Somehow this show flies under the radar, but it’s just secretly a fuckin’ massive all-timer. Version galore + everyone is locked!
Scarlet Begonias
Oct. 9, 1976
Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Stadium

As @viola said, everyone is fuckin’ locked in + feelin’ it. All-timer pre-S>F version!
Bird Song

Fox Theatre

Such a cool moment in the rekindling of this song, but they really start getting going again in early-‘81.
Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain

Absolutely *not* a silky-smooth version, but it does still groove! Oxymoronically weird! It’s chunky at times, and that’s okay, cuz Jerr just paints over everything in the most beautiful way, smoothing the rough edges. (People mistake Jerry carrying it for the entirety of the band being on it, and they are not on this epic night, but he’s shouldering it all and making it sing. Also, the space in the SBD is uneven. Billy + Jerr are loud, but everyone else is dialed way back). Anyway, a strange but bangin’ version: Good ol’ Grateful Dead!! (4/20/84 vibes)…
