One of the more languid takes on this one. Although Jerry's voice is shot, it works. Notable for 2 runs through the solo, both of them stellar.

Explosive jam makes this one a bit unique. Not as smooth and complex as some later versions, but synergy and chops by all.

Smokes from head to tail. No SBD, or this would be top 5 with ease.

I fully expect this one to rise in popularity once the BBD arrives.

Nice AUD has Jerry up front. Great solo in SB, transition is interesting, with nice cascading riffs, followed by a Hot FOTM.

I haven't heard a higher energy solo in S/B. The trans is pretty good until they get a bit derailed, aside from the solo in SB, I don't think it delivers like other versions from this year.

One of the most rewarding aspects of the project were my feelings did change. I used to love 3/27/91, thought it was all that, and then some. It's not, it faired very poorly in review. I do think I would have probably awarded it a slightly better score had I known it's identity. I love the songs too, or else I wouldn't have embarked in this madness. I also appreciate your discourse, I think it improves the site drastically. I posted a link to all the timings and ratings in one of the 1991 versions, if you are interested.

I attended the concert and was aware of its notoriety, but I took all 240 versions and labeled them 1-240, with the date only visible in the metadata in ITunes. I Didn't want to be swayed either way by others opinions, good or bad. By your own admission, the Scarlet is ordinary, so half of the combo is already disqualified, How can it be in the best ever discussion then? I don't think the fire has the level of intensity, excitement and most of all, chops, required to make it primo. You obviously hear something I don't, and I don't want to harsh your mellow at all.

The dual leads of Wier and Garcia engage in a fierce game of cat and mouse on this Scarlet. It's phenomenal. The fire is good, but not up to the insanity and beauty of the SB. See what you think. +1

I listened to them anonymously so outside opinions wouldn't influence my review. Dick was pretty active online years ago, he'd tell you himself he was prone to hyperbole. On Buddhist principle, I took the Masters advice by questioning the masters advice. I listened to everything with an open mind, and no preconceptions. Do you think it deserves its ranking in the top ten? If so, why?
