Mississippi Halfstep Uptown Toodeloo
May 7, 1977
Boston Garden

Truly subjective opinion here, but I like this one way more than 9/3/77. It is much cleaner, everyone is totally in sync and they all ride the peaks together. I think the 9/3/77 is louder, more aggressive, a little less clean and precise, and has one great moment. The 5/7/77 version just sparkles from start to finish, and Jerry is possessed.

An incredible jammed out version. Comes in between Drums and Wharf Rat. The beginning has a lot of drums (unsurprisingly) and the ending has this long beautiful ambient jam. Harmonies are wonderful.

This is a beautiful version with the slide guitar. It gets a little heated at the end too, some parts of the jam have a nice bounce to it. Definitely a beautiful version.

For sure the best guitar solo of all the May '77 versions. Jerry is out of this world! Some of the other versions (5/22) have a slightly faster beat and emphasize the funk a little more. But for me, this is IT.

2nd jam contains absolutely the most stunning Garcia solo... fastest runs I've ever heard him play on guitar. This needs to be heard to be believed! The jams on 5/22 and 5/28 are much more drawn out, but this one packs an incredible punch in a shorter time.
